Power Outage...

As you all probably know by now, all of San Diego county had a power outage a little over a week ago.  It was weird yet exciting all at the same time.  I picked Jeff up from work, and it took us about 30 minutes to go 1/2 a mile because there was so much traffic.  The gas tank was pretty much on empty, so we decided to turn around and wait it out a little bit at Jeff's work.  We didn't want to run out of gas. 

We waited about an hour before heading out again.  We took a nap to help the time pass by quickly.  When we started our journey again, the roads were pretty clear, thank goodness.  We arrived home and headed straight to the BBQ to grill some chicken and turkey burgers for dinner while it was still light out, and then we just hung around our apartment with candles and glow sticks. 

We did venture out for a walk around our complex.  Jeff got bit by mosquitoes about 15 times.  I had zero bites.  Weird.  We also drove into San Marcos to see how creepy it looked without any lights.  It was weird.  Imagine everything being closed, all power being off, and hardly anyone being out.

Our power came on around 10:30pm...7 hours after it went out.  We were lucky, though, because some people didn't have power until 2am or later. 

This whole experience reminded us that we need to be prepared.  Get started on our food storage, although we have nowhere to put it in a 720 sq ft apartment.  But, we need to do what we can.  And, we need to make sure we always have at least 1/2 a tank of gas!  I am so thankful for electricity.  We really do take it for granted!
